Dereliction and Redevelopment
Eager anticipation
As the work on Ruddington Country Park drew to a close there was a growing sense of expectancy within the local community. It was more than 10 years since the last auction sale had taken place on the Depot. In the decade since then the opinions of the people living in the surrounding area about the future of the Depot site had been expressed and taken into account. Preliminary plans were made public, and there was ample opportunity for anyone who had objections or reservations to suggest modifications and improvements. The local press and radio made known brief progress reports as work proceeded. From a safe distance many people had watched both demolition and redevelopment taking place, and there was a general invitation to actually take part in final stages of the project by planting a few trees.
Gradually local residents began to realise that Ruddington Country Park was for their use and enjoyment, and they looked forward eagerly to its opening.
