Bombs to Butterflies - The Book

One of the main aims of the Ruddington Depot History Project was to produce a book describing the Ruddington history of the depot site during the 20th century. The project was based on a series of interviews with people who lived or worked on the site, written submissions by those unwilling or unable to be interviewed and documentary research. The resulting book, 'Bombs to Butterflies, from Ruddington Depot to Rushcliffe Country Park' was deliberately aimed at the non-academic reader. The book has been well received by the public and over 1,000 copies have been purchased in the 2 years since its launch, often by those who themselves knew the depot in the wartime or immediate post-war period. In addition, 250 copies of the book have been distributed free of charge to schools in Nottinghamshire to be added to their libraries.

The Online Version of Bombs to Butterflies

The website includes the complete text and illustrations from the second edition of the book 'verbatim et literatim'. The online version will not be altered or added to except for corrections of typographical errors. However, hyperlinks will be added at appropriate points in the text where new information has become available expanding on or correcting material in the original text.

The online version of Bombs to Butterflies is divided into the same chapters and sections used in the book. Each page has navigation buttons at the bottom pointing to the previous and next sections of the story and the contents page, which provides a quick way of accessing a particular section of the story according to its chapter and/or section name.
